Lagerstroemia is a genus of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia, and other parts of Oceania. These flowering plants are chiefly known for their colorful and long-lasting crinkled flowers which occur in summer and autumn, ranging in color from deep purple to red to white, with most species featuring sinewy, fluted stems with a mottled appearance from bark that sheds throughout the year.

Suitable for light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils; prefers well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil; suitable for mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils.
