Avocado is a broadleaf evergreen, flowering, tropical tree in the laurel family native to Central America. It produces large green leaves and greenish-yellow flowers that yield large, rich, fatty, edible fruits containing a single large seed. In the wild, mature trees can reach 60 feet in height with a 30-foot spread, though commercially grown trees are typically shorter.
