Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), also known as European blueberry, is a Eurasian low-growing shrub native to northern Europe and North America. The plant produces edible, dark blue berries with a smooth, circular outline, distinctly different from North American blueberries which grow in clusters. The dark color derives from high anthocyanin content, and the berries are traditionally harvested wild in northern European forests and are valued for both culinary and medicinal uses.
