Filipendula ulmaria
Filipendula ulmaria, commonly known as meadowsweet, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Rosaceae. It grows to 1–2 metres tall with erect, furrowed stems that are reddish to sometimes purple. The leaves are dark-green on the upper side and whitish and downy underneath, much divided with large serrate leaflets. The plant produces delicate, creamy-white flowers clustered in irregularly-branched cymes with a very strong, sweet smell. The flowers appear from early summer to early autumn and are visited by various types of insects, particularly Musca flies.
