Garlic chives are a bulbous perennial herb from the Amaryllidaceae family with characteristic onion or garlic odor. They produce showy cream-colored flowers above clumps of strappy green leaves in early summer, and are valued for both ornamental and culinary uses. The plant is native to the Himalayan region and southwestern Shanxi province of China, and is commonly used in Asian cuisine.
