Cenchrus alopecuroides (formerly Pennisetum alopecuroides), commonly known as Chinese fountaingrass or dwarf fountain grass, is a warm-season perennial grass native to Asia and Australia. It typically grows in graceful, spreading clumps with narrow, medium to deep green leaves that change to golden yellow in fall and fade to beige in late fall. The plant produces showy, silvery to pinkish-white, bristly, bottle brush-like flower spikes that arch outward from the clump in late summer, resembling water spraying from a fountain. The flower spikes turn brownish as seeds form and usually persist until late fall or early winter.
