flowerBergenia is a genus of ten species of clump-forming, rhizomatous, evergreen perennials native to central Asia, from Afghanistan to China and the Himalayan region. They are characterized by large, leathery, spirally arranged rosette leaves (6–35 cm long, 4–15 cm broad) with wavy or saw-toothed edges, and pink flowers in varying shades ranging from almost white to ruby red and purple produced in cymes on rhubarb-stalk-like stems.
Suitable for light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils; can grow in heavy clay and nutritionally poor soils; prefers moist soil; tolerates mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils
