herbGillenia is a genus of perennial herbs in the Rosaceae family, endemic to eastern North America. The genus comprises two species (G. stipulata and G. trifoliata) that are subshrubs with exposed semi-woody branches and serrated, palmately divided leaflets. They bloom in May–July with distinctive five-petaled white flowers that appear slightly twisted, and are commonly used as ornamentals and in herbal medicine.
Prefers well-drained, mildly acid to neutral soil; suitable for light sandy, medium loamy, and heavy clay soils.
