So… What Exactly Is Garden Kinship?

So, I might have forgotten to make an actual post about what this website is, why I made it, and so on… Oops!
Hi, I am Pernille. I am a professional gardener, a lover of all things green, and the person behind Garden Kinship.
For years, my hands have been in the soil, learning the quiet rhythms of nature — gardening has always been my sanctuary. But when it came to planning my own garden on a screen, that sanctuary disappeared. Every app I tried felt stiff, impersonal, and exhausting: spreadsheet-grey interfaces designed for office cubicles, not flourishing beds. Instead of sparking creativity, they turned the most joyful part of the process into homework.
I realized we needed something entirely different. We needed a space that matched the peace of a real garden, something visual, soft, and inviting.
I built a brand new visual tool for garden planning. Our goal was to step away from the rigid grids and clinical interfaces of the past. Instead, we focused on bringing a softer, more illustrated feel to the screen. Imagine a digital canvas that feels like stepping into a serene watercolor painting, where every interaction is designed to keep you in a state of mindful presence.
I wanted to create a platform that is actually joyful to use. A place where you can map out your vegetable beds, arrange your flowers, and dream up new planting schemes without feeling like you are doing homework. Best of all, Garden Kinship is completely free — and that will never change.
My greatest hope for Garden Kinship is that it becomes a gentle companion on your gardening journey. I want it to be a cozy corner of the internet where you can gather your thoughts, find inspiration, and watch your botanical dreams take root. Whether you have a sprawling backyard or a few pots on a balcony, my ambition is to help you cultivate your space with joy and ease.
Thanks for being here, and I cannot wait to see what beautiful things we will grow together!
With warmth,
Pernille

Cold, Wet Summer: What Stalls, What Rots, and What's Having Its Best Week
A grey fortnight in the middle of summer feels like a disaster and mostly is not one. Almost everything you are looking at is paused rather than dying. But three things are genuinely rotting, one creature is having the week of its life, and the single most damaging thing you can do is the thing that feels most productive.

Garlic time!
A must in my kitchen garden is Garlic. We use garlic in nearly all food, from pasta sauce and salad dressing to steak dinner and dip for chips. And it is super easy to grow!

Late Blight: How to Spot It, and What to Do the Day You Do
Most garden problems give you a season to think about them. Late blight gives you about ten days. It arrives on the wind in the muggy end of July, and the difference between losing a crop and saving most of it is usually whether you recognised it on the first morning or the fourth.
