Dieffenbachia is a tropical perennial herbaceous plant native to the New World Tropics from Mexico to Argentina. It features straight stems and simple, alternate leaves with distinctive white spots and flecks, making it highly attractive as an indoor foliage plant. The genus is named after Joseph Dieffenbach, head gardener at the Vienna Botanical Gardens in the 19th century. These plants are popular houseplants due to their exceptional tolerance of shade.
