flowerDodecatheon is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant in the family Primulaceae, characterized by basal clumps of leaves and distinctive nodding flowers with reflexed petals and projecting stamens produced at the top of tall stems. The genus is largely confined to North America and northeastern Siberia, with species commonly called shooting stars, sailor caps, mosquito bills, or mad violets.
Prefers moist, rich, well-drained soil; suitable for light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils; prefers mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils.
