English bluebell is a bulbous perennial that produces nodding, one-sided clusters of 5–12 sweet-scented violet-blue tubular flowers in spring. The plant has 3–6 long, linear, basal leaves and is particularly associated with ancient woodlands where it forms dramatic carpets of violet-blue flowers.
