These flowering plants are chiefly known for their colorful and long-lasting crinkled flowers which occur in summer and autumn, ranging in color from deep purple to red to white, with most species featuring sinewy, fluted stems with a mottled appearance from bark that sheds throughout the year.
Suitable for light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils; prefers well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil; suitable for mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils.
