shrubSyringa is a genus of 12 currently recognized species of flowering woody plants in the olive family called lilacs. They are small trees or shrubs ranging from 2 to 10 metres tall, native to woodland and scrub from southeastern Europe to eastern Asia, and widely cultivated in temperate areas. Lilacs produce flowers in spring in shades of purple, white, pale yellow, pink, or dark burgundy, growing in large panicles.
Suitable for light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils; prefers well-drained soil and can grow in heavy clay soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils and can grow in very alkaline soils.
Thrives in the same full sun, moderate water conditions as lilac
