Luffa is a genus of tropical and subtropical vines in the Cucurbitaceae family, commonly cultivated for its edible fruits when young and for the fibrous sponge made from mature fruits. The plant is an evergreen annual climber native to South and Southeast Asia, producing yellow flowers and elongated fruits resembling cucumbers that can reach up to 30 cm in length.

Start loofah indoors about 4 weeks before your last frost, keeping seeds in warm soil (around 20–25 °C). Seeds usually come up in around 7 days. Move seedlings out once the danger of frost has passed, in full sun, spaced about 30 cm apart. Expect to harvest in roughly 70 days.
