A bulbous perennial flowering plant growing 10–20 cm tall with two to four strap-shaped leaves and nodding, blue, bell-shaped flowers that appear in early spring. The flowers have six tepals and six stamens and are usually bright blue, though white varieties exist; they naturalize rapidly from seed and form large colonies.
