Gaultheria procumbens is a low-growing, evergreen shrub native to North America, typically reaching 15–30 cm in height. It produces small, white or pale pink flowers followed by bright red berries that are aromatic and edible, with a characteristic wintergreen flavor. The leaves are also aromatic and have been traditionally used to make wintergreen tea and medicinal extracts.

Start Wintergreen indoors about 10 weeks before your last frost. Seeds usually come up in around 21 days. Move seedlings out once the danger of frost has passed, in partial sun, spaced about 30 cm apart.
