It produces dark blue-black berries (6.4–12.7 mm diameter) and displays brilliant autumn foliage in red, orange, yellow, and purple. The fruit is highly valued for fresh eating, cooking, and processing, and is rich in vitamin C.
Prefers well-drained, mildly acid to very acidic soils; suitable for light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils; requires moist soil.
