Jeffersonia is a small genus of herbaceous perennial plants in the family Berberidaceae, commonly known as twinleaf or rheumatism root. It is an uncommon spring wildflower native to Eastern North America, characterized by distinctive leaves divided into two leaflets and showy white flowers with four sepals and eight petals that appear in April or May.
Prefers well-drained, moist soil; suitable for light sandy and medium loamy soils; tolerates mildly acid, neutral, and basic (mildly alkaline) soils; found naturally in limestone soils
