The name derives from Ancient Greek meaning 'flame', referring to the intense flower colors which may be pale blue, violet, pink, bright red, or white, with many species being fragrant.
Prefers well-drained, mildly acid to neutral soils; suitable for light sandy and medium loamy soils; can tolerate both moist and drought conditions
