Creeping phlox is a spring-blooming herbaceous perennial with a dense, spreading, mat-forming habit, native to the central and eastern United States. It grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall and spreads 2 to 3 feet wide, with needle-like, awl-shaped green foliage. The plant produces loose clusters of small tubular flowers (approximately 3/4 inch) in shades of pink, lavender, reddish-purple, and occasionally white, blooming from late April to early May.
