houseplantHosta is a genus of herbaceous perennial plants native to northeast Asia (China, Japan, Korea, and the Russian Far East). Hostas are widely cultivated as shade-tolerant foliage plants with broad lanceolate or ovate leaves varying widely in size, growing from rhizomes that are sometimes stoloniferous. The plants are hermaphrodite and flower from July to August, making excellent dense ground covers.
Thrives in fertile, humus-rich soils. Grows well in light (sandy), medium (loamy), and heavy (clay) soils. Prefers pH between 6 and 7. Mildly acid, neutral, and basic (mildly alkaline) soils are suitable. Requires soil that does not dry out readily.
Thrives in the same partial sun, moderate water conditions as Hosta
