String of Hearts is a tender, succulent, evergreen perennial with long, wiry trailing stems that cascade and hang like strings of beads. The plant features small heart-shaped leaves that are dark green with silver etching on the upper surface and purple on the underside, with characteristic bead-like aerial tubers developing along the stems between the leaves. Purplish to purplish-white tubular flowers occasionally develop, and the plant is native to Southern Africa where it grows along hillsides.
