flowerHeliopsis is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, native to dry prairies in North and South America. The sunflower-like composite flowerheads are typically yellow, up to 8 cm (3 in) in diameter, and are borne in summer. The genus includes about 18 species and is noted for attracting wildlife including bees, insects, and birds.
Suitable for light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils; prefers well-drained soil; can tolerate heavy clay; suitable for mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils.
