Japanese mild thin-walled pepper. Blistered whole in hot oil. About 1 in 10 is mildly spicy — a Russian-roulette pepper. SHU 100–1,000.
Capsicum annuum (Banana Pepper)
A fellow Solanaceae — similar growing habits to Shishito
Start Shishito indoors about 10 weeks before your last frost, keeping seeds in warm soil (around 20–25 °C). Seeds usually come up in around 14 days. Move seedlings out once the danger of frost has passed, in full sun, spaced about 45 cm apart. Expect to harvest in roughly 60 days.
Shishito seed rarely stays viable beyond 2 years — track what's still worth sowing.
