Brassica oleracea var. italica
Purple sprouting broccoli is a cool-season vegetable that produces numerous purple flower heads (sprouting shoots) on tall stalks over a prolonged harvest period. Unlike heading broccoli varieties, it branches extensively and yields smaller heads over many weeks, making it a productive winter and spring crop.
Start Purple sprouting broccoli indoors about 5 weeks before your last frost, keeping seeds in cooler soil (around 10–18 °C). Seeds usually come up in around 5 days. Move seedlings out once the danger of frost has passed, in full sun, spaced about 60 cm apart. Expect to harvest in roughly 120 days.
Keep track of the seeds you own.
